Braised Pork Belly with Daikon


Ingredients
1 medium-sized daikon/radish - cut into cubes
600g pork belly - cut into cubes

few slices ginger
2 cloves garlic
3 stalks of spring onion

1/3 cup sake
1/3 cup soy sauce
3 tbsp mirin

white pepper
1 cup water

1 tbsp oil

Method

  1. Heat up oil in a pot.  Saute ginger and garlic until fragrant. Add pork and brown on all sides.
  2. Add soy sauce, sake, mirin and water. Bring to a boil, lower heat and gently simmer for 1 hour..
  3. Add daikon and submerge them in the sauce together with the pork. Simmer for another hour or until pork is tender. Sprinkle some white pepper.
  4. Ladle into a serving bowl and garnish with chopped spring onions.
  5. Serve with steamed rice.
